No matter where you take the water you consume from it may be heavily contaminated. In addition that consuming water from rivers, reservoirs-drinking sources or wells may lead to serious ailments. Even the water from a tap, which is said to be treated, also contains many contaminants. So it’s quite important to use a water treatment system. But it shouldn’t be just any. Here you must be sure that you use a reputed and trusted commercial water filter system. It shouldn’t be just a good brand, you should also take into consideration the type of filtering systems that are used there and also how effective each is. Only afterwards you will be able to make the best decision. So this article would be rather useful for you as here you will find a small review of five basic types of water purifiers.
The most widely spread type is activated carbon type, where the carbon particles are used to filter water. The way how it works is rather simple: different sediments and contaminants just adhere to carbon surfaces, and as the result you get clean water. In addition it effectively removes all possible odors. However, this type of filter is ineffective if you want to kill the microorganisms present in the water. As to the distillation type distills water. The process of distillation includes the boiling process after which the vapors are collected and you get pure drinking water. Such type helps you to get rid of different sediments, contaminants, and microorganisms. On the other hand such water filters are very slow. To every ten liters you get approximately only one liter of filtered water. In addition the quality of water also reduces as the distillation process doesn’t allow oxygen to pass through.
The type in which the water passes through a purifying medium is called backwash type. This medium helps to trap different residue, sediments, and contaminants. You should know that the cartridges are removable and may be easily found in the market. However again, it doesn’t kill any harmful microorganisms. Another widely spread type is reverse osmosis one which was primary developed in order to desalinate seawater. The principle of such purifier is in passing of the water through a semi permeable membrane. The thing is that only single molecules can pass through. Though it is rather effective, still some small microorganisms may escape through.
And finally there is a UV water purifier. The latter is based on the ultra violet radiation which is able to kill different microorganisms such as algae, viruses, bacteria, molds and oocysts. These filters are considered to be the most effective. The water you get is really free of any contamination. However the result is not 100 % sure as some sediments may cause shadows and as the result prevent the UV rays from reaching the microorganisms.
That’s why the ideal combination would be to use both reverse osmosis and UV water system.
