How deep should water be on elbow of undergravel filtration system in fish tank?
20 gallon hex tank – underground water filtration system (LEE) with tubes going up to top with elbows connecting …. should these elbows be submerged? depth of water on elbows?

i usually keep them about 1'' below the surface, but a powerhead operated RUGF (reverse under-gravel filter) with a good HOB or canister filter would work much better..
then again so would a non-hexagonal tank
To properly aerate or move the surface of your tank's water, the elbow of an undergravel filter should be JUST BELOW the surface of the water so the water-bubble stream that exit the elbow just skim the water's surface.
