Making A Betta Indoor Pond?
Hello, I was wondering how i could make a betta pond?
What would be an ideal container or material to make this pond out of?
I realize betta cannot be in deep water, so i will lower the water level down to around 7-9 inches and throw a bunch of water lettuce and amazon frogbit in there for cover.
What would be good filtration for such a pond? cant be too strong for the betta, but i guess it cant be just a few sponge filters…?
This will obviously be heated at around 79-80F…so i guess ill need a few heaters.
The reason im am looking into doing this is because i need a large amount of water to house a lot of plakat betta fry. Im planning of only housing females in this pond, and ill pick out the males as they grow…
Thanks for any help!
Thank you answer man, that does give me an idea of building a wooden-board support for the pond…but i am wondering i i can ust use a big container instead of a kiddy pool..
neils, I like the way you think lol.
Yes, than kyou hope, realize thats true now, that they have more room. but im not going to risk that anyway. the only way im putting males in there is if i get some hemaphroditic males from the batch. for anyone’s info hemaphroditic males are very rare, and they barely have any agression to other males. they are also sterile…

you can buy a child pool or a large container and line the insides with like this black roll of heavy plastic and glue those down at the sides. Brace the sides with wood and such, then use either a bunch of small sponge filters or have a setup of a external filter that uses a power head to pump the water to a separate container where you may use a very powerful filter which u can make a water fall out of the filtered water.
I helped my aunt build an indoor pond for her goldfish. All we really needed was one of those little child pools to hold the water, some ply wood to form walls and the base, some 2×4s to brace the walls, and some paint to decorate. We cut the holes for the air pump and filter, we ran the hoses into a 3 inch space we left underneath, make sure you brace the underneath so it doesn’t collapse in. It took less than a week. Since your going to use it as a betta pool you’ll have to go with a sponge filter so the current will be minimum and so that the fry don’t get pulled into the filter.
Hope it works out.
you could actually have 2 or 3 males in there if you really wanted.
the only reason they arent reccommended for bowls is that in the wild when the bettas fight, the loser flees and goes away from the attacker. in a bowl, the loser has nowhere TO flee, so the attacker keeps attacking it until it dies. with a larger pool, the loser has somewhere to flee i.e on the other side of the pond/behind plants. so it doesnt have to be ALL females, just to let you know :)
