does charcoal kill bacteria in a water filtration system? and how would i use it in one?

science project….need to filter bad water and make it clean enough to drink? so what do i use?

I have Well Water at my house. I have been living here for 9 yrs and have had a huge problem with the smell?

of the water…we have it tested every once in a while and nothing ever shows up…my clothes coming from the wash are disgusting and only the Master bathroom has smelly water..our well guy told us to pour bleach into the well..we did and seized the motor. Had to get a new pump. We ran bleach throughout out water filtration system. Still the same. We believe it could only be one thing that could be causing this…bad water coming in from the well.. maybe bacteria or something..so we would need to drill in a new spot…could it be anything else????????? I have had it with smelly water and want to sell my house…

Is reverse osmosis water really the best choice or are high-end carbon filters as good? Any thoughts on ionic

We are trying to improve the quality of the water we drink and shower/bathe in, specifically removing chlorine. I feel inundated with the choices. The carbon based filter people tell you that RO water is dead and bad water because ALL the minerals are removed. Then you have like ten step carbon filters which seem pretty decent, and in a normal 0 price range. RO’s are usu. 0 and up. And ionic water filters are pricey, but they alkanize the water, and you can choose the water you need, acid, alkanine, etc. for cooking, drinking. One more option is whether to get a whole house filtration system? Does NYS offer free water testing or is it done by municipality?
