I have read somewhere that RO doesn’t filter out chlorine that well. Is that true? Does a carbon filter cleans out chlorine well?
I have a private well system here in Wasilla, AK and I am not happy with the water quality. I used a shower filter to remove chlorine etc when I lived in California but that is not the problem now. The water causes dry skin, tastes horrible and seems to have a lot of calcium and iron in it. I had some tests done and was offered a Water conditioner that uses polymer beads and a seperate system that uses reverse osmosis to filter and soften all of the water in the house. This will cost around 00 is that the best way to go or does anyone know of a better option? I do want to filter all of the water in the house for drinking, cooking, bathing laundry etc. Are there certain things I need to leave in the water for health reasons? Is it ok to strip the water of as many minerals etc as I can?
My water tap water tastes like pure chlorine, i got a brita filter which helps a little, but still tastes like chlorine, is there anything that will get rid of that chlorine after taste? is it healthy having water that tastes like that?
We recently bought a cottage with a well. The well was inspected and tested for bacteria before we closed on the property & everything was fine. Pressure was great, well and tank looked good, etc. The only issue was low level bacteria so we decided to have the well techs treat the well with chlorine. They accidentally did a shock treatment on the well. We returned to run the chlorine out of the system and were disgusted to see filthy black and iron filled water. We were told this was normal and that if we kept running off the water that it would soon run clear. We then discovered that our water pressure was horrible as well. So I took all of the screens off of the faucets and changed the carbon filter. Still low water pressure. I finally just bypassed the filter to run the water off and got normal water pressure back & had finally almost cleared the water…when boom the water shut off (no water at all..just air). The pressure tank now reads 0 PSI. Can anyone help?
I read the back of the conditioner and it says it removes chlorine and chloramine, neutralizes heavy metals, and coast to protect and heal. It says it protects scales and fins. "Pure Herbal Extracts visibly reduce stress attributed to transportaion, handling, and acclimatization.
—Aqua Plus also coats scales and fins to protect against scrapes and cuts."
I didn’t realize they sold me a fish tank water conditioner because I had just listened to the pet store employee (I’m not sure why I didn’t look it up first…)
My question is do you think whatever is in there that coats scales and fins is safe for my turtle?
Do you think the stuff that coats fins and scales can harm my turtle’s eyes or harm him in any other way?
Do carbon water purifiers filter out chlorine ?
Have high ph and sulfur caused by sulfur bacteria in well water. One company recommend chlorine and vinegar injection followed by carbon filter. Most neighbors have greensand filters and don’t do anything about ph. Greensand requires less maintenance but word is they become a maintenance problem years later. Can’t decide which to chose since sulfur bacteria isn’t harmful does it matter if greensand removes bacteria as long as it gets rid of sulfur smell and taste. Anyone know anything about these systems. Thanks.
There are large storage tanks in the back of the water stores. If there is chlorine in the water after it is filtered, will the chlorine evaporate in the storage tank?
The title should say
Does Reverse Osmosis water that you BUY from one of those water stores contain chlorine?
distilled? spring water (like aquafina?) tap water with carbon filter? its for a beta fish with snails and a froggy
Thank you everybody for your quick response’s. I will try a carbon fillter and tap water.
Better yet!!!
I will just use spring water as of the last post (thank you) and skip all that tap water chlorine fun.
For homebrew, I need a water source free of chlorine (or chloramine, which is chlorine+ammonia).
Will a charcoal filter out chloramine? Standard pitcher filters like Brita? What else?
