The EPA estimated safe level of chloramines in drinking water is 4 mg/l. My city water is 2.5 mg/l. Is 2.5 mg/l a safe level? Government agencies are hardly trustworthy because they’re so heavily influenced by the private sector, but is 2.5 mg/l a safe level for drinking water? I’m thinking about buying a Berkey water purifier, but it doesn’t filter out chloramines. I guess only carbon block purifiers filter out chloramines, so I would have to rule out the Berkey filter if I wanted to filter chloramines. If 2.5 mg/l is unsafe can you recommend a good countertop carbon block purifier? The fluoride level of my city water is .1 ppm. 2ppm is considered safe, so the fluoride level is not a problem I believe. Thanks for any replies.

I only need a small water filter, counter top. I don’t know why I can’t make one, but it has been difficult to find information, instruction or ingredients.

I would think that carbon would be one ingredient. I want the water to taste better, and remove the bad minerals, and organisms. I don’t want to remove the good minerals.

I live in a high rise that is about 60 years old, and it uses city water. The city is on the shore of Lake Michigan.

I really don’t want to put a lot of money into buying a counter top water filter system, since I’m on Social Security, and have to cut costs as many ways as possible.

Some things I’ve learned in my searches, is that the carbon can become contaminated over time, and should be changed periodicly. I also learned that batting below the carbon can remove small pieces of the carbon. But, are there other ingredients I need, and how do I build it?

I’m having trouble with the water pressure in my refrigerator’s water dispenser. I’ve cleaned all the water lines, yet the pressure is still low. The trouble shooting guide said the low pressure could be caused by a reverse osmosis system. I’ve just purchased the house, and wasn’t aware of any such system. What is it and how to I tell if I have one. (I have city water, not well water.)
I have replaced the filter in the fridge and the water lines all appear to be open. I’ve cleared them with compressed air.

I recently moved into a house with a Kinetico VX reverse osmosis water filter. The normal water is city water, and we also soften it, so it is fluoridated. I know RO removes fluoride, and I have a 2-month old and 2-year old. Given that the RO system also removes any dangerous chemicals, should I be using it even though it removes fluoride?

I live in Ft Lauderdale and the city water here is yellow! I have looked into whole house filters but they are very expensive and I can’t make the investment.
I’m frustrated because all of our white clothes are yellowing and I can’t get them white again. When the laundry tub fills up, the water is yellow so no matter what type of detergent I add it just becomes foamy yellow water.

Do you have any suggestions? Coincidentally, we fine broke down and decided that it is time to replace our outdated and inefficient washer and dryer. Maybe we could find one that has built in filtration system….

Thanks!

I work for a bottled water company which also installs filtration systems ranging from whole-house systems and point-of-entry to point of use to undercounter units. A customer recently asked about a whole-house system which would be located underground between his home and the city water main, however, even on a Web search we’ve been unable to find anything like this, and our operations manager cannot recall seeing anything that meets these specifications at any of the trade shows or training sessions he has attended. Is there anyone out there who either has a system like this or works with systems like these, and could point me in the right direction? The man actually said his neighbor has one…but we think he may be mistaken as to what his neighbor has.

I am looking into getting a Brita water filter for my home. I am looking at the kind that attaches to my kitchen faucet. Is there really anything that this can filter out of city water, besides the chlorine? I am just wondering if it will be worth spending the . I do not want to spend it, then find out that the water is already being filtered enough before it reaches my house.

Thank-you for your answers, I just want a second opinion before I go out and spend on a water filter thingy.

Thanks again, Tyler

The water is not safe to drink. I need a unit to take with me,
Where I will be living for over 3 months has no bore-hole and no connection to city water. I will be living in a house and will have to buy water for drinking and everything else. A water pitcher is not enough.
