clean water laws
Which states have laws requiring boaters to clean off plant matter?

I know Maine does, and it looks like Ohio, but what other states have passed laws to institute safeguards against the spread of water plants from one site to another?

I know that Minnesota and Wisconsin, and North and South Dakota have such laws.

Water softener help please?

Have had problems with our Water Boss since we had a 5 day power outage. We cleaned part of the head and it does seem better. Had the water tested after cleaning the resin tank, and it tested 6 gr. hardness, no iron. Straight from the well, it tests 12 grains of hardness, plus iron. What is the usual testing reading when going through a softener? Should it be zero? Or do you think the whole head needs to be serviced. We had a sticking piston in the brine housing. Anyone familiar with a Water Boss, would appreciate an answer to my question.

I am not familiar with a water boss, but have been involved with water treatment for many years. Water softener is to reduce your hardness to 0-2 Grains per gallon, any higher and the re-generation is not happening enough. If you have auto re-generation on this unit, it needs to be reset. If you set the re-generation times either by a dial or digitally, then check that.

clean water developing countries
How does a lack of clean, safe drinking water insure the continuation of poverty in developing countries?

How can it change?

when there is no clean water to drink, it is hard to really concentrate on anything else. just as it would hard to go to work and be productive when you are hungry….you have priorities. Before you move forward, you have to take care of the bare necessities, which are food, clothing and water, although, not necessarily in that order. you have to take care of the basic stuff before you move on

clean water heater
what is the white buildup inside my hot water heater?

I’m talking about the kitchen appliance kind of hot water heater (the kind you use to heat water for tea, for instance), not the household appliance one.
It gets these buildups of white stuff along the bottom over time.
What is this stuff? Is it calcium deposits, or something from the local tap water? (I use Brita-filtered water, so I don’t see why there should be deposits).
It’s coming from somewhere, but I don’t know where!
Is it safe?
Should I clean it out? How frequently?

It’s calcium. Filters don’t filter everything out, as they would have us believe. Use vinegar every couple of weeks, depending on how much calcium you get.

It always removes the water impurities as well as the bad smell from it so that water can be freely consumed. Reverse osmosis is the best and trusted water filtration process as in this water pressure forces water through a fine membrane that filters out between 85-95% of the dissolved solids in the water. But it is wise to have soft water filter inline the reverse osmosis system prior to reverse osmosis. Popular water filtration processes have a water softener, carbon filter, reverse osmosis system so that pure water can be generated. Despite the fact they perform various powerful methods they are still very inexpensive and costs between $2,500 and $5,000.

Chlorine is the most common and popular chemical agent present in the water which increases the risk of various lung and water born diseases. That’s why majority of the water filtration processes are equipped with filters which not only clean the water but also eliminates the bad smell from it. This makes water drinkable and also keeps the water nutrients intact. Apart from reverse osmosis there are carbon block filters which are also of prime use. But it is told that they should be often replaced as their manufacturers too specify this.

clean water heater sediment
GE electric smart water heater hot water trickle?

Model: PE 40T9CB00. It was bought from Home Depot Canada few year ago under a 9 year warranty. After two years the hot water flow reduced to a trickle.
The culprit was a plastic insert in the hot water outflow adapter. This was apparently used to void the need to sealer during the home installation. Heat destroyed the insert and formed a sieve in the adapter. After taking apart and cleaning the connection normal water flow was restored. Now, two years later the same problem surfaced.
Technical support from Virginia, US recommended drain the tank 2x a year for sediments. (It supposed to be self-cleaning) Change the anode connectors (?).I have the impression they do not know what they are talking about and they do not care.
Anybody has any bad experience with this heater?
Any idea what could be the problem?

Draing your water heater twice a year is a truthful answer, especially if you have hard water. Basically all the crap that is in your water will sink to the bottom of the water heater, build up and eventually start to take out your heating elements.

For the self cleaning part, I guess I have never heard of such a thing, nor do I know how it would even work.

Problem you may have now is, if the tank is filled with sediments it may be very hard to get it all to come out. It usually builds up inside, and can be tough to get it all out.

Without knowing much about that particular water heater I dont see how the anode connectors could make the water flow to go to a trickle.

Any your probably right. Usually tech support people don’t have the slightest clue on what they are talking about, nor do they care if you have hot water. They usually have a book in front of them, they look for your problem in the book, and give you whatever answer is printed, and they always seem to think that should fix the problem when it does not.

Good Luck.
