It feels so foreign to me to drink water straight from my kitchen faucet. My mom boils AND filters our water every day. I am having trouble getting my 8 glasses a day because the fridge I have at home does not have the water part and I use to have that in my old house and I use to drink like almost 2 gallons a day. My skin was perfect and I had an easier time maintaining my weight. Now that I don’t have that fridge, I probably drink 2-3 glasses of pure water a day! is it okay if I start drinking from the tap? My skin is still clear mostly but I have small blemishes and it just does not glow the same, and my weight has fluctuated. Let me know. The water website for my county goes over the filtration system and its pretty impressive but I am so unsure since I was not raised to drink water this way.

how many tadpoles can i keep in this pond?

its a pond, dug into the ground, then the plastic pond fitted in. then cememented round the sides. it has no filtration system, and only a clump of java moss as a plant, but i have loads of large stones in it that have algae and plants that i am unsure about growing on them. the bottom is filled with smooth gravel. it is about 1.5m long, and about 80-90cm wide, and about 30-40cm deep. as you can see, this is just something i picked up at a garden pond centre. i just saw it lying there, it was only £20. i just though "hey… thats quite big for its price! iv got loads of garden space so i could use it for minnows and tadpoles!" as this is way to small for goldfish isnt it? i tend to give my goldfish at least 100 gallons of water each so they have no problems growing. anyway, back to the question, how many tadpoles can fit in this? i have no idea how many gallons it is and the measurements were just rough estimate. id say its around maybe 40 gallons? i could be totally wrong, it could be more. and yes, i will let the frogs leave and come back as they please. how many minnows should i get? i am very fond of tadpoles and minnows. maybe 10-20? the minnows i will get are called fathead minnows, they come in their thousands along the river next to my house. so taking a few wont do much damage. and before you ask, i have had this pond built in and treated water has been sitting in it for about 4 months now, iv been waiting for frogs and minnows to come. they should come in about a month. so there will be no water problems. also for the matter, is there any type of catfish/loach or algae eater i could get for my pond? i am very fond of them. I live in Scotland, so you can get a grasp of the temp. so no tropicals please.
im not stupid, i know fine i can keep more than 5 in there.

I just moved into a place that has well water and it has iron and sulfur in it. I have a water softener and a double filtration system in place but my hair is still somewhat orange from the water. The water runs clear but still stains the tubs, sinks, toilets, washer, and my hair. What do I do? I am renting and love the house!

Do you think it would be ok to use an Ant and Roach Fogger if I just shut off the filtration system and covered with a towel? Or maybe duct tape a plastic bag over it and tape it to the counter???? I would hate to harm my froggies. They are water animals………

Has anyone had this problem??? Ants are taking over my house and I just cant take it anymore, but I dont want to hurt my frogs.

What can I do????

Thanks in Advance!!!!
there is nothing for the ants to be "after" it is just ant season here in Louisiana and they are EVERYWHERE
2 Ten gallon tanks, not very easy to move full of water…..

I am building a commercial sized saltwater aquarium, i am planning on using a very minimal amount of live rock, most of the aquarium will be fish, with small amounts of live rock scattered throughout. I have searched the internet for various skimmers, and other forms of filtration, and I want to know if this setup that I have thrown together would work realistically. Any feedback is greatly appreciated…

I want to use this type of filtration system, biological and mechanical. It says it is to be used for a Koy pond…is this a problem?

http://www.thepondsolution.com/shop/item.aspx?itemid=230

I will be using this style protein skimmer

http://www.myreefcreations.com/product_info.php?products_id=177

It says that it is rated for 8500 gallons each, I will be using three of them.

water pumps and tubing is not an issue that i’m concerned with, however I was wondering how I would heat such a large aquarium. Then I decided that a good idea would be to buy a pool heat pump. I know that they do not work in temperatures of 45degrees or less, which is why i am planning on putting it inside of my house. Would this type of pool heat pump (if kept at 75-80 degrees) harm saltwater tropical fish? I know that it can handle the actual task of warming the water, for about 200$ yearly, I just need to know if it will harm the fish, or have any type of adverse affect on the quality of the water.

http://www.poolheatpumps.com/Kopec.htm
I know the fact that this will cost a ridiculous amount of money, I am not interested in that aspect. Also, I am wondering if adding lots of live rock would be a good idea, to help filter the aquarium.

Cleaning schedule for a dog with allergies?

My dog was diagnosed with environmental allergies about a month ago. He also exhibits symptoms of food allergies, although my vet will not agree with me about that. He itches himself terribly in the morning, he chews his back paws and legs, he has itchy ears that smell a little off, he rubs his snout in the carpet, he had a bad episode of eye discharges, and he had an episode of vomiting a little while back.

In an effort to minimize his itching, I switched him gradually from home-cooked food (prescribed to him after his vomiting episode) to California Natural lamb meal and rice. He’s been eating the dry food only for the past 3 days, but the itching has not stopped or subsided yet.

I bought a new vacuum cleaner yesterday with a sealed HEPA filtration system and bags from Arm and Hammer that are supposed to trap 99.7% of all allergens. So, after cleaning the house throughly from top to bottom, I washed his bed in hot water and dried it in the highest temp possible.

My questions for owners of allergic dogs are: 1) how long until I see some improvement in his itching? and 2) how often should I vacuum the house to keep it allergen free or at least allergy friendly?

I have no kids, so it is a household of two adults, 1 dog and 2 cats that shed moderately but not too much.

Thank you!

I just bought a large filtration system that will be used for two connected homes w/ two fridges w/ ice makers. The system is able to route water to the setup i need, two faucet dispensers and the two ice makers. will pvc (3/8") vynyl tubing be ok to route the filtered water? i already have the "ice maker" lines installed on the fridges but ill be using about 75 ft of tubing to route the lines. local home depot only has pvc and guy there said it would be ok, but i need a second opinion, tnx.

HELP, fish keep dying in tropical tank?

Help my poor fish keep dying.I have a 200lt tropical tank set up with the required heating and filtration system. It houses 6 zebra dandeos, 2 barbs, 4 guppies& 2 gouramies. I use aquarium salt and do a third water change every two weeks using water conditioner every time. However my fish keep dying at what is an alarming rate.(At least one a week) They have a healthy varied diet of flakes an live food.I have noticed a day before they die there scales develop this dull sheen and they quieten right down. Please help my poor fishies?
Sorry, forgot to mention that have had fin rot before and this is nothing like it. Fish are relatively untouched when they die, no sign of rot or any deteoration aside from the dull scales
N.B. Am only using a very small amount of aquarium salt(not the same as a salt water tank)as advised by our local aquarium as this is how the fish had been kept up untill we purchased them. I understand that a tropical tank is one that has a temperature that must be maintained as opposed to a salt water tank (which contains salt water fish )
Tank has been set up for two years and the fish dying has only happened in the last month

Is my water safe for fish?

I live in an area in which the water from the tap is really disgusting and not recommended for people to drink. Most houses here have a filtration system that is separate from their main water tap. I am thinking about setting up an aquarium but don’t know if I should use the water from the tap or go through the REALLY long process of getting the filtered water. I have the AquaSafe stuff that is supposed to make tap water safe by neutralizing chlorine and such, but I also know that some places have safer tap water than others. Is there any way I can know for sure? Thank you in advance!

plumbing problem!!! pic included?

http://i286.photobucket.com/albums/ll106/spelunker2/DSCF0998.jpg

this is a picture of the water shut off valve
there is one of these for both toilets and 2 for each sink, 1 hot 1 cold

usually these valves are the turn knob type, but for whatever reason, these have a knob that pulls out to shut off the water, and push in to turn the water back on

well the problem is that these shut off valves are popping off by themselves randomly throughout the house,

the only other thing i can think of is that it may be related to the well pump, water softener or filtration system,

i’ve had one plumber come out and look at it, and he couldn’t figure it out, and he wanted to replace all of the shut off valves with the standard type of valve to fix it, which was going to be expensive for labor
yeah they are shutting off the water by themselves

This 4,000 square foot house has geothermal heat pumps that limit electricity use and provide year-long heat and air conditioning. The system only uses 25% of the electricity that traditional heating and cooling systems use. The home also collects water from it’s showers, sinks and toilets, runs it through an underground filtration system and stores it in a 25,000 gallon cistern with rainwater collected from the roof. The water cistern is later used to irrigate the landscaping around the property.

The other guy has a 10,000 sq. ft., 20 room mansion where the reported electric bill for the year was ,000.00. It used nearly 221,000kWh which is more than 20 times the national average…. and this is just one of his 3 homes. This truley is "an inconvenient truth" for this guy.

Again….. no one talking about this.
these facts don’t fit your point of view JJ? Kind of sucks when you find out your leader is a fraud. But… you have every right to continue to support Gore and his myth… You can find plenty of questions and answers here that are "made up" to fit your agenda…. don’t be bothered with the facts on this one.
uh… Shuana… I’m talking about George Bush’s Home… not the white house… and no… green electricity does not cost 10 times more… actually it’s not quite twice as much…. but even if it was 10 times more…. he still uses 20 times more than the national average…. and I wonder why when this report came out he is suddenly making all these improvements to "green" up his home… yes, I have done my research… you should do more and stop being an appologist for someone who clearly does not believe or support what he preaches… its embarrasing
uh Frankie… where does electricity come from?
JJ…did I at any point in this question link his environmentally sound home to any other statement or decision, good or bad, that he has made to give him a "free pass" on the poor decisions made?

You are the one who is trying to link everything you dissagree with to this question and you are trying to discredit his actions. The way someone personally lives says a lot about them. Al Gore abviously doesn’t put too much stock into his theory.

This question is soley to discuss Al Gore’s Hypocrisy vs. George Bush’s conservation. IT IS CLEAR… NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO TRY AND SPIN IT. If you want to discuss other topics about George or AL ask the question… I’ll look for it.
BTW JJ… read the link provided to you by Scott just below your statement… then ask me about Fossil Fuels.
oh off sets are great huh JJ… so basically…. if you can afford it… you can live any way you like… wow!! That is really caring about the environment huh!

You are so right… more research needed… OH… anything else you would like to give your mentor a free pass on? Does his private Jet run off green fuel too? I’m just curious… oh thats right…. he throws a lot of money into his fake company to "offset" his use…. silly me!

Can I somehow get my whites clean in yellow water?

I live in Ft Lauderdale and the city water here is yellow! I have looked into whole house filters but they are very expensive and I can’t make the investment.
I’m frustrated because all of our white clothes are yellowing and I can’t get them white again. When the laundry tub fills up, the water is yellow so no matter what type of detergent I add it just becomes foamy yellow water.

Do you have any suggestions? Coincidentally, we fine broke down and decided that it is time to replace our outdated and inefficient washer and dryer. Maybe we could find one that has built in filtration system….

Thanks!

and i found out that i could get one hundred gallons of water from the local water station for a quarter knowing that most people dont even use two hundred gallons per month but mainly doing this would be cheaper and pay for its self in the long run and i have been trying to figure out how i would lay the system out and get it to work for all my water needs bathroom kitchen and yard my main plan was to buy a new 500 gallon water tank to be stored in a basement and another tank to take on a trailer to fill up and some kind of pump and filtration system along with a decent sized water heater and lay out my pipe and see what i could figure out but my main problem would be how do i get my water to flow like a regular city/or/well water system thank you for your time

Sprinklers clogging & sedment in water lines!?

Just bought a new house on friday. We have well water. It’s a 700-foot deep well which has a yield of 3GPM.

Anyways, I have been watering my lawn and after about 30 – 45 minutes the sprinkler heads clog from sediment. I go outside and the srpinkler is just spinning in little circles sputtering out a little dribble of water. I have to literally flush out and reconnect the sprinklers every 20 – 30 minutes.

How do I flush the line? I can see all the grit in the toilet at the bottom when the water settles.

Does this sediment flush out eventually? Or do I need a filtration system? I need the water – my brand new hydroseeded lawn is going to die!

the house will closing today, what can I do now?

I am buying the foreclosure house, and done the home inspection already. the inspector went that day, it was water over the floor, and checked out it’s the water filter/ filtration system broke. he said that the pipes were fine, don’t be so worry. So I decided to buy the house. but waited until the today , before the house closing, we went back the house to take a check, but the water was turned off. I tried to turn on but couldn’t help. I insisted on requiring the water on. but the seller came and said that was the city turned off the water …something. they couldn’t do anything. So what can I do now?

Additional Details

My realtor said after the house closing. we need to make a call to the city to ask for the water on , is it true?

I think I’m going to take my fish (saltwater) home for my thanksgiving break. its 9 days. The ride is about 2 and a half hours without traffic. Never know how chicago traffic is gunna be so maybe tack on sometime to be safe. The man at the aquatics store i get my fish from said i would need to get some buckets and put the water in there and the fish in there and than bring the tank (with only enough water in it to keep the rocks wet) cuz if I leave the water in the tank he said it would crack. I have a 20 gallon by the way. So i would bring the tank and than a bin or bucket or 2 of the water. and than the stuff i need for them. One of the questions i have is how long can they last without the filtration system running? and another question is, if i bought a decent size one of these

http://www.petco.com/Shop/AlternateImages.aspx?FamilyID=12031&sku=796476

would they be able to live if i put the filter in there? or maybe just for them to travel in. I was just wondering that because it was just an idea so I wouldnt have to bring the whole tank. I dont think it would work but I just wanted to know. Will it put too much stress on the fish to move them?

If you guys had to transfer your fish, how would you do it? Should i do it the way i explained? And finally, will transfering them do anything to the chemical balances of the water? like the ph or anything that the cycle i had to wait for did to the water?

thanks for your help!

Purify Water at Home without Filter?

Hard Water and Pools?

I bought one of those inflatible pools where you inflate the ring and the pool rises (10′ circular, 4′ deep). It has a filtration system that comes with it, and I’m wondering if it’d be safe for me to use our hose water (which doesn’t go thru our water system that’s in our basement). We have hard water (bacterial iron). The water runs clear but if it sits for 5 minutes you get a slimy rust colored residue in the water. So, I’m wondering, would the pool filter be able to handle this, or should I go thru all the trouble of finding a way to get water from the house to fill the pool?

i was wondering about the omnihousewatersystem house filter we just moved where our water is from a well right now the water smells so bad coming out of the taps i can barely shower i wont even do my dishes in it i noticed outside attached to the well there are two cylinders that say omni house but there is no filter inside them and they have brown algae looking stuff in them i was wondering where to get filters how much they cost and if that filtration system is meant for wells

I’ve finally fixed the water pressure problem by replacing the self tapping valve with a normal valve, but water still leaks from the filter housing when the dispenser is activated. So basically anytime I fill a glass with water or water is periodically filled into the ice dispenser, a good bit leaks from the side of the filter into the fridge. I couldn’t possibly put any more teflon tape on it and the seal seems tight. What’s wrong? Its a Pure Source brand filtration system.

I went to Sears and they had individual reverse-osmosis filters for under your kitchen sink that go for -300 that take filters changes every 6 months or else they’ve got a central water whole home filtration system that costs 0 but is self-cleaning, does the whole house, and doesnt need changing for over 10 years. I want to have water be drinkable in the house and don’t mind it just coming from the kitchen. But I could see my family and I flaking on changing the filters. But I’m guessing just one at the sink would taste better than one for the entire house. Here’s the links I’m looking at: http://www.sears.com/shc/s/p_10153_12605_04238556000P?vName=Appliances&cName=Water+Treatment

This is a large residential location with about 10 people. I am searching for a filtration system for the whole house. tap water comes out at 320ppm, and they would like one filter to use fr everything, pool, showers, dishwasher, lawn… Are there any systems that drop the ppm through a filter without having a waste line? All i am hearing about is carbon filtration or water softening. They dont want water sofeteners.

Which filtration system provides cleaner filtered water?

Technorati Tags: ,

I have a refrigerator that only has an inline filter instead of the additional (and much desired) second filter in the fridge. We have used the sink faucet one for awhile but it’s so expensive, has to be changed a lot, and is always in the way when I’m doing dishes. Would you recommend getting an undersink filtration system or buying something like Culligan delivered already filtered water?
