I have a few oscar questions, maybe you can answer them?
1. Is a 300 watt heater too big for a 40 gallon aquarium? ( I purposely got a 300 watt for when I upgrade to a 60 gallon in 3 months). Will it overheat the water?
2. Is 78 degrees really the best Temperature for Oscars?
3.Why is the inside of my aquarium walls slick/slippery? The water chemistry is almost perfect, temp is right,Great filtration,no live plant,no algae(That i know of) but when I stick my hand in the aquarium and touch the inside walls they are slick/slippery.Is this
normal?
4.What is better for less bacteria, sand or gravel? I have gravel and I know gravel traps waste and spawns bacteria although I do keep it vacuumed well. Is sand better? I know having nothing in the bottom allows the filter to catch almost all the waste but that is just ugly so which is better, sand or gravel?
My tiger Oscar who I just brought home from the pet smart less than a week ago has taken to me very well.He spots me in the room and comes right up to the glass to greet me. He eats very well, Pellets, flakes, baby crickets, brine shrimp and the other night, a menacing house fly. He even comes up and touches my arm with his nose when I have my hand in the aquarium adding fake plants. These are all signs of a healthy Oscar right? Thanks for the help.
