I am looking to get a upgraded aquarium in the near future. I have a 75 Gallon Aquarium with 2 Oscars and a pleco in that. And i have a 55 Gallon tank with a Green Terror Cichlid, a convict cichlid, a senegal bichir, and a ornate bichir. I plan on keeping these tanks but i would like to get another tank to house 2-3 different oscars, and possibly a pike cichlid, and a jack dempsey. What Size aquarium and filtration set ups would i need to make this possible? I know how to care for the fish and i keep my aquariums clean with 30% bi-weekly water changes. Any Advice/feedback you can give me on my current set ups and my future set up would be greatly appreciated. thanks

My girlfriend just got me a 12 gallon Nano Cube Deluxe for Christmas. It should be delivered to my house soon. I’ve owned tropical fish as a child and I’m barely getting back into the interest of keeping small fish again in my early 30’s – so yes, I’m a novice with little experience. I know for beginners, it is recommended to get a 20+ gallon tank. However, I live in a one bedroom apartment with limited room so I thought this nano cube would best fit. I’ve done some research and found that people have successfully kept a pair of Rams in 12 gallon eclipse systems with some neon tetras. Would someone please (with personal experience & knowledgeable) let me know what fish (that looks good & is compatible with Rams) are small enough and hardy to successfully cycle a tank before introducing the German Blue Rams? FYI, I don’t plan on keeping live plants. I want this to be a clean and simple setup.
Also, anyone with experience with the Nano Cube 12g Deluxe (for fresh water) can let me know if there is an opening in the back of this tank to put an air tube through for an external air pump for a decorate air stone or something? From all the pictures (which are mostly marine setups), it appears that no one has air bubbles being pumped in. Don’t mean to sound like a big-time novice, but is there some type of technology in the 3-stage filtration system in the rear that oxygenates the water or something? My online research won’t turn anything up on this? Please help…
Any additional tips would be helpful.

standard 55 US gallon tank. dual hang over filters both rated for 70 gallons. Weekly 40%ish water change (i will do more changes if needed)
Fish:
1 green severum
2 firemouth
1 blood parrot
1 bristlenose pleco
all of these fish will deffinitly going to be housed in the 55 gallon.
Do i have room to add another medium/large cichlid?
i was hoping i could keep a female jack dempsey in there as well but not sure if that would be over doing it. im aware of the minimum tank sizes of these fish as i have done a lot of online research but i have more than enough filtration and again i dnt mind doing extra water changes! if a female JD wouldnt work, what kind of other cichlid could i add?
thanks a bunch!
thanks so much for the suggestions! the annoying thing is there are 3 pet stores close to me that sell fish and its weird, none of them sell acaras…only GT’s =[ they do sell convicts tho. are regular cons and the yellow cons the same in temperment? and also, none of the places sell rainbow cichlids either!

i had 3 zebra danios and 5 neon tetras in my 11 gallon tank, ich broke out and killed 3 neon tetras, i moved the 2 neon tetras to a hospital tank so it would not spread to the danios, my sister killed one of the neon tetras accidentally and my danios were fine, but about a week later something very weird happened, my sister killed another fish, one of the danios and he was dead in the tank for more than 24 hours im guessing because i went to a friends house, now i only have 2 zebra danios but, yesterday i noticed that one of my danios back fin was almost completely missing!! and its right fin was noticeably smaller, so i moved him to a small bowl thing because i think he is going to die
then today i realized my other danio had it!!! what could it be?? both danios are still alive but the one i noticed first is floating upside down and breathing rapidly, the other one is swimming normally but half his tail is gone and i havent noticed and rapid breathing, any suggestions on what could’ve happenend and any medications that could help or any technics like turning up the heater and so on
BTW i have a heater, bubbler and double filtration and i do regular water changes and the tank is still cycling, actually it is only about 2-3 weeks into cycling
Today i am going to my pet shop to pick up:
a more powerful filter
ammonia/nitrite test kit
melafix
CYCLE ( the stuff that speeds up the cycling process )
should i get 2 more danios because i know that danios are schooling fish and require schools of 3+
Thankyou!
Hey sunset!
SHUTUP!!! i will do what i want! my fish only killed them and it was an accident! i reported you and i hope your poor fish commit suicide because they have like the worst life ever

I have a 45 gallon tank stocked with a blood parrot cichlid, firemouth cichlid, rubberlip pleco(max size is 5-6"), a red tailed shark, and 6 tiger barbs. I did my homework and researched all of the fish and have had a lot of experience with fish keeping and i am aware that this tank is a bit overstocked. I was going to give away the parrot but everyone in the house has grown very attached to her and were fighting against me to give her away. but as of right now they are all juveniles and none of the fish exceed 4 inches yet. I have Very good filtration and i dont mind doing needed extra water changes. they are all happy and get along very well and i will do my very best to keep them happy in this size tank. I would upgrade to a bigger tank but because of space and other factors, its out of the question for now. so let me know what you all think about this and any comments are appreciated. Thanks -Chris

I want to get an oceallaris clown fish and I have a five gallon tank with a three-stage filtration system. If I get the supplies, you know the bag of aragonite, a heater, chemicals ect. can I keep one in it? I’ve heard of many people being successful keeping two clownfish in a ten gallon tank but never heard of a five gallon one other than nano reefs. I’m a college student living in a dorm in on campus housing so I don’t have enough room for a larger tank. I appreciate your comments and advice. Thanks.

It is a 29 gallon tank and has 55 gallon filtration w/ some live plants, this is what it currently is housing
-12 female bettas
-1 dwarf bristle nose pleco
This is what I would like to add
-4 bronze cories
I do 1/4 weekly water changes and change the cartdridges once a month, so far everyone is happy and healthy, the tank has been running for at least 3 months w/ fish.
Thanks in Advance!
Okay, cool! How many otocinclus could I add in about 1 or 2 months? Feel free to edit your answers!
