Hello,

My children have just received baby water turtles as a gift, we have two and they are very small we currently have a 20 Gallon Fish tank but plan to purchase a 100 gallon in the next 6-7 months. However i always seem to have a hard time keeping the tank clean. We recently changed from a regular power filter that came with the tank.

The water went from dark brownish green to cloudy, but much much clearer. What can i do to keep the water as crystal clear and as healthy as i can for the turtles. also whats better the micron filters or the carbon activated filters.

I have a treta repto filter. It is a carbon filter. How do i clean it. Can i just rinse the cartridge through water. I don’t have the money to by one cartilage every week. I May be able to change every other month. Please tell me how i should clean it and when should i change the cartilage. It is going in a 37 gallon turtle tank. Thank you
Will i need the carbon in my tank. I own turtles. If i just rinse the cartilage will the carbon just dissolve. Then i need a new cartilage. Or can i go with out the carbon for my turtles?

Hi, I am in no way new to keeping reptiles (including turtles), but I wanted to ask about the tank size owners of the Mata Mata suggest for a hatchling to an adult? What kind of filtration? PH levels? Gravel or sand? How frequent do you do water changes? Any feeding tips?

Can fresh water turtles and frogs live happily together?

can a fresh water turtle and frogs live happily together in a half water half land tank enviornment???

ive head and seen the end results of this. it tends to end up with a dead (if not eaten attacked and killed) frog. also frogs tend to prefer shallower water and cooler temperatures (and cooler water) than turtles they dont bask like turtles and prefer to hide in damp cool places where turtles like warm sun drenched places. u can provide the environmental niches needed for both species in a tank at home. if u make a frog live like a turtle it will cause stress and illness. also there the chance of disease and bacteria incompatibility as well. its just not worth the risks

Are eastern box turtles illegal to have as pets in some states or areas? Where? Are they endangered?

I recently acquired 2 eastern box turtles from a family who was neglecting them and was not giving them proper care or nutrition. They were severely underweight, with long beaks and nails, and were being fed dry cat food. They had a heat lamp, but no UV bulb. They also had no opportunity to burrow, and a very small water dish. I’ve since filed their beaks down, gotten them on a diet of soft turtle food, the occasional nightcrawler or recently deceased fish or pinkie mouse, fresh fruits and vegetables, and box turtle pellets, and have moved them into a bigger home with a dirt and reptibark mixture as a substrate. They also have a UV bulb now. What is the proper temperature to keep them at? Also, they like to fornicate a lot – how would i go about making the environment suitable for mating?

They are illegal to CAPTURE in most of their range, and babies under 3 or 4″ are illegal in many places- both other than that they are usually OK.
