Water heater noise when heating up?
I live in a 1994 modular home. I have been here for almost 3 yrs. As far as I know the water heater is I live in a 1994 modular home. I have been here for almost 3 yrs. As far as I know the water heater is the original one, the problem I am having is that when it heats the water up it sounds like popping from inside it. like something is banging around inside.
The community has well water and it has a LOT of calcium in it. they started flushing the system when i moved here and the rust is now gone but still a lot of calcium. I have a small filtration system in my house but it does very little to help. I don’t know if I should call someone to come out because the only way to get to the heater is through my closet and i think i have to pry open the wall. if anyone knows what might be going on please help.

The calcium build up on the bottom of the heater is trapping air (like in boiling water) as the unit heats up. Only thing you can do is clean out the water heater as best you can.
Turn off the breaker for the water heater first. It will be a 220volt breaker. Connect a garden hose to the hose bib at the bottom of the tank, run the house outside on the floor, it must be kept low. Turn on one of your HOT water faucets, then turn the valve on at the bottom of water heater. Let run for about 20 minutes. Turn off faucet first. Then turn off valve at bottom of heater. Flip the small lever up at the top of the water heater brass pressure valve, when you think the heater is full, you’ll proprably hear the water stop running, flip the lever back down. The lever allows the air to come out of the tank so it can fill all the way. YOU HAVE JUST FLUSHED OUT WATER HEATER. PS Don’t forget to put the breaker back on.
