What is a recommended water softener/filtration system?
Tonight I had a RainSoft salesman stop by. It has the lifetime warranty, the coupon program, the 5 year supply of soaps, a UV light for the air handler, to kill bacteria. All for 95.
I got suckered in and signed some paperwork. I have the option of cancelling within 3 business days, and started to do my research and see it’s very expensive in comparison.
I am wanting to know what is recommended as far as quality, warranty, price and on going costs for a full-house filtration/softener.
I have a skin condition and want to try to use less soaps. I also want to try my best to keep within my budget and make sure that I’m not buying something that is so over priced that it won’t get a return like some of the other systems available.
I’ve seen some reviews about Kinetico and Culligan but I’m not sure what people’s experiences have been with these and the return in comparison to RainSoft.
Would it be best to get a test by a separate, local company and if so, what should I test for?
Can you provide me come guidance?

For drinking, use reverse osmosis unit only (not salt-softened water!)….for bathing, Culligan or any salt-softened unit is good…but all require a high amount of water during backwash!
RainSoft is a very good quality brand. My friends who could afford it (and I used to be one of them) have always been very happy with their systems. It’s all about what you can afford. I will say this, if you make this investment, you’ll never need to upgrade, and you can absolutely forget worrying about the water on your skin!
My family has been in the industry with Culligan for 45 years. I know our biggest Twin Tank water softener with a reverse osmosis drinking water system together is a far cry from the price of that unit. Also Culligan dealerships rent their systems as well if that is something you are interested in. A lot of the Culligan dealerships have Free Installation. Then you can invest when more comfortable with them and the type of product. No maintenance costs on the equipment ever except salt if you rent. I would have 3 companies out and then compare them all. Have them test for Hardness in Grains per Gallon, Clear Water Iron in Parts Per Million and Red Water Iron (Ferric) in Parts Per Million. Also have them test for Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) We used to carry the air device and it does have some good features but one can’t make broad health claims with it. My dad still has the air device installed at his home and still likes it.
Rainsoft in our area has the reputation as high priced, sell only, high pressure. Not very local company since there are not many of them. Not that their equipment is junk but I believe we have more technologically advanced systems with more budget options for a lot less.
We just came back from a Culligan convention and Culligan soon will be unveiling a High Efficiency water softener. Dial a softness, 60% more efficient, Energy Star Certified. It looks awesome. Good Luck.
